As a member of the Directors Guild of America I am fortunate to have worked on top tier TV events including “The Emmy Awards”, “The Kids Choice Sports Awards” & “The Beatles: The Night That Changed America – A Grammy Salute”.  Other shows I have worked on include:

  • A Little Help with Carol Burnett – Netflix series 2017
  • The 59th Grammys Awards Premiere
  • The Disneyland 60th Anniversary Celebration
  • The 66th & 67th Emmy Awards
  • The Voice
  • The X Factor
  • The American Music Awards
  • The Radio Disney Music Awards
  • The Academy of Country Music Awards
  • The Do Something Awards
  • Fox Cause For Paws
  • The Kids Choice Awards
Peter Jackson brought the world premier for the “Lord of the Rings, Return Of The King” back to New Zealand in December 2003 after he helped to refurbish the Embassy Theater where he watched movies and was inspired as a kid growing up in Wellington. 120,000 people lined the streets to watch the spectacle. I project managed the Red Carpet Zone with numerous street closures and emergency risk management implementation.
Eventing The Future continues to grow as NZ’s event industry conference. As  Co-Producer, I headed the sponsorship, programming and media drive on the event in its first three years.
The Montana Christchurch Winter carnival was a 10 day event with over 60,000 attendance featuring over 50 separate events. I was the Festival Director for 4 years and responsible for all departments on a year round basis for the successful implementation of the event including a large sponsorship management portfolio and staffing procurement.

Music projects

I was fortunate to work with fantastic musicians and producers in New Zealand and achieved two NZ Music Industry Awards in 1992 and 2003 for Claddagh “Continental Drift” and a duo CD with Brendyn Montgomery called “Mountain Air”. Other memorable projects include:

  • Working with producer Jody Lloyd on several projects including the eponymous “On The Map” by Bazuki Joe
  • Promoting Irish music in NZ including Lúnasa, Alan Kelly, Gráda and The Emily Smith Band.

In 2007/8 I attended the Masters in Traditional Irish Music Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at the University of Limerick (try saying that after a few pints…). This was an invaluable time to explore my music and meet some of the mentors that I had learned from and listened to all of my adult musical life in traditional music. Highlights were playing in a great ensemble with Phillipe Barnes, Katie Boyle and Brid Dunne and also having masterclasses with  Niall Ó Callanáin, Alec Finn, Arty McGlynn, Manus Lunny, Tim O’Brien, Steve Cooney, Chris Newman, Ed Boyd and Clive Carroll. I also taught bouzouki to first year BA students.

I have taught bodhrán at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch New Zealand and also in private classes and festival workshops worldwide. As well as teaching the Irish bouzouki at Limerick University, I have also taught at The Frankie Kennedy Winter School in Gweedor, Co.Donegal, and continue to give private bouzouki lessons in person and on Skype.
I was delighted to be asked by Greg Johnson to play some tracks that appeared on his 2012 “EXITS” release. I played Irish bouzouki on “Not Back In Time” and guitar on “Make Good Friends” and “The Sherriff “(with Flip Grater). It was a most excellent time and Greg is a fine producer, musician and all round Kiwi icon and mate. Hope we get to do it again in the nearest….
Cormac released Éalú in 2012 to critical acclaim. The 9 tracks CD is an amazing journey through a myriad or world music, diverse language and culture and with 22 musicians contributing, it is no mean feat of production or project management. I was lucky to add some Irish bouzouki to the “Spain and The Basque Country” track and to play tunes with Cormac when ever we are together, most recently in St.Stephens Green at his wonderful marriage celebration to his beautiful bride, Ger Breatnach Daly!
